In Search of Peace

During the month of February, I’m teaching a class at my Church entitled, “Journey into Christian Meditation.” It’s my attempt to share a 25 year-practice of discovering peace within through silence.

In the first session, I remarked, “Both the alcoholic and the achiever want the same thing – Peace.” Some simply go about their search for peace in destructive ways that negatively impact their overall health. I also shared my morbid fascination with suicide notes. I’m always amazed to read a person’s final thoughts before taking their own lives. Can you imagine the one sentence that’s in the vast majority of all suicide notes?

Most people write, “This was my only choice.”

Options are key. We need to remind each other that there is always another way. Your emotional state dictates your ability to envision new solutions to existing problems.

I need to repeat that again!

Your emotional state dictates your ability to envision new solutions to existing problems.

Whitney Houston, Don Cornelious, Michael Jackson, Amy Whinehouse and countless others were searching for peace. Their lives should be a cautionary tale for all of us to deliberately create healthy rituals that expand our sense of peace and joy.

Quickly make a list of your top 5 healthy peace rituals.

For me the list would be reading, running, sharing, prayer and serving others.

What’s on your list?
Does it work for you?
Be open to adding new healthy activities to your peace rituals.

I’ll close with one of my favorite quotes:

“Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of God no matter what the conflict.” – Anonymous

I pray that you would continue to strive for success and radiate peace that it may improve the lives of others.
